CAMPYLOBACTERIOSIS

Campylobacteriosis.  A.K.A Campylobacteriosis Gastroenteritis, Campylobacter, Campylobacter Infection.

This is an infection caused by a bacteria you can get from contaminated food, water, and animals.  A common source is from eating under cooked poultry.  Or touching raw poultry or contaminated surfaces.  Also from drinking whole unpasteurized milk.  Or from handling animal feces/manure.

Restaurants, eating out, eating at outside gatherings/events, or even your home prep can be a source if the establishment/event/or your family, does not follow good food handling practices.

In a normal healthy person it can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and fever.  Most people get better without treatment.

In the USA there are over a million annual confirmed cases each year.  That number does not take into count how many never seek medical attention.  Those numbers are not in the count.

People with weakened immune systems are more subseptible.

From our social media we have one CAD report that campylobacteriosis was confirmed after a CAD related blood issue.  Starting with chills, low fever, and diarrhea.  Followed by hemolysis.  Causing a 3 week period of problems.  Including an otherwise un-explainable drop in RBC and Hgb.

Testing is stool samples and or a blood test.  Unfortunately the blood test can take up to 2 weeks to come back with results.

Do not take anything for Diarrhea or vomiting unless your Doctor prescribes it.

For people with weakened immune systems your doctor may prescribe:
Azithromycin (Zithromax, Zmax, Z pak)

Other Options:Ciprofloxacin (Cetraxal, Ciloxan, Cipro) or Levofloxacin (Levaquin)

This bacteria can be antibiotic resistant.
